Former MP and film actor M Mohan Babu on Saturday joined voice with Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi in launching a scathing attack on the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for its careless attitude in solving the issues related to ordinary pilgrims. Mohan Babu told the media that he was pained at the serious concern over the poor functioning and delivery of services provided to the devotees. “The TTD management is in chaos and all its departments are hit by lack of accountability and transparency, corruption, and vested interests of some of the officials,” he said. He deplored that the TTD’s slogan 'Dhamo Rakshati Rakshitaha,' had turned into a farce. “All the establishments, facilities and services offered to the devotees are 'far below the minimum standards expected from the TTD. The Vedapatasala, which is training about 700 future priests, is in a very awkward, untidy and dilapidated condition. More than 40 students are dumped in a single room. The kitchen, dining hall, dormitories and restrooms are in a pathetic condition. Since time immemorial, we give a lot of respect to the Brahmin community, but the TTD has blatantly neglected the priestly class,” he said. He appreciated Chiranjeevi’s concern for the developments in the TTD. “I have no problem in extending my cooperation to Chiranjeevi in undertaking an agitation to protect the Tirumala temple from corruption,” he said.
